Frequently Asked Questions

What do you need to know?

  • Fresh Prints West Philly was founded in 2016 by owner/operator Jessica Watson, a long time West Philly resident with more than 15 years of professional pet care experience. She studied Animal Bioscience at Penn State University and earned her dog training certification through the Animal Behavior College. Her prior professional experience includes positions at the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and various dog walking/pet sitting companies. A lifelong pet owner and animal lover, Jessica has fostered countless stray pets, both independently and through a number of organizations. Rest assured your pets are in capable, caring hands.

Fresh Prints is licensed, insured, and bonded, and a member of Pet Sitters Associates. All of our sitters are carefully selected professionals and live within our service area. We’re your neighbors!

  • Yes. We also conduct background checks on all of our pet sitters before they are hired.

  • See this page. West Philly between 38th and 52nd, from Market down to Woodland, basically.

  • Several reasons.

    • We mostly get around by bike, both for environmental reasons and for expediency. (It’s amazing how much time you save when you don’t have to look for a parking spot!) Having clients more than a mile apart makes this much harder.

    • Staffing- like everyone else these days, we have trouble finding lots of reliable employees. Since we only want to work with the best, most responsible folks, we keep our team small and light. Quality not quantity!

    • We love our neighborhood and prefer not to leave it!

  • It depends! We are often filled up for dog walking, but are usually taking new cats and small animals for occasional visits. Please email us for availability.

  • New clients: If we are accepting new dog walking clients, we’ll schedule a complimentary consultation which takes place in your home. At this meeting you’ll be provided with some straightforward paperwork which will need to be completed before walks begin. In addition to the “Pet Info Form”, we’ll also need core vaccination records from your vet and TWO sets of WORKING keys.

New cat clients will also need to schedule a free consultation and provide two sets of keys, but are not required to provide a Pet Info Form or vaccination records. We will discuss your schedule at the meeting and you can email us with any changes, following the below protocol.

Existing Clients: All weekly scheduling requests and changes are due by 6pm on Sunday for the upcoming week (unless your schedule stays the same each week – no need to update, in that case). When you contact us about your schedule, please specify the requested:

    1) Visit Type (such as, 30 minute dog walks, 15 minute pee breaks, cat visits, etc.); and

    2) Time Frame (a 2 hour window is required to complete scheduled visits – for example, if you ask for a “dog walk at noon”, it will be read & scheduled as a time frame of 11am-1pm – except for pets who need timely administration of medication).

An hour-long walk requires a 3-hour window - if we have already agreed that an hour walk is available, please specify a 3-hour window.

Please note: NO visits requested after the 6pm on Sunday deadline are guaranteed, but we'll always do our best to accommodate. And remember our Last Minute Scheduling Request Policy!

  • All services scheduled less than 24 hours in advance will incur an additional $5 charge.

  • • Payment due at the last visit of the week

    • Cash, checks, PayPal and Venmo accepted

  • A cancellation requires 24 hours advance notice or you will be held financially responsible for the time reserved.

  • Yes! We serve our clients 365 days a year.

It’s important to book well in advance for your holiday needs, as we have limited availability and holiday spots do fill up fast!

    Additional fees do apply:

Holidays will have an added fee of $10, which goes straight to the sitter as compensation for working holidays! This includes Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve & Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Easter.

  • Yes, we need to hold on to your house keys. We keep them in a secure location at all times.

If needed, we will do one key drop-off, but any additional visits solely for the purpose of getting or returning keys will incur additional charges.

  • Sometimes! Overnights are subject to limited availability, and are only for existing dog walking clients. Prices are based on the individual pet’s needs. Email for details.

  • No.

  • Cost of Services:

The costs of all pet care services are now listed here on the website. If there are any future changes to our prices, they will be updated here. If you are a client of ours, we will be sure to let you know of these updates in advance.

  • Yup, you do. We will supply you with a Pet Info Form.

Please remember to keep all information on the Pet Info Form current by notifying us of any health or behavioral changes. The Pet Info Form requests basic contact info about you humans, and more detailed info about your pet(s) – including the location of necessary items (leash, bowls, favorite ball, etc.), behavioral quirks, vaccination status, and your regular veterinarian. If you adopt a new pet, a profile will need to be completed for him/her before we can add them to the schedule.
